Genesis 29:15-16: And Laban said to Jacob, are you not my brother? And should you serve me for nothing? Tell me, what shall be your wages? And Laban had two daughters, the name of the older, Leah, and the name of the younger, Rachel.

Genealogy is a real issue when it comes to the birth right of the descendants of Abraham; Isaac and Jacob but more so of Sarah; Rebecca; and Leah and Rachel. The question arises in that Esau and Jacob were twins and is it possible that Leah and Rachel were as well? Rebecca’s brother was Laban making Jacob his nephew resulting in both Leah and Rachel being his first cousin.

This story of the marriage and relationship between Laban and Jacob must have been told at every wedding since then. Every time a bride comes to be married she wears a veil indicating her purity and her father lifts her veil for the bridegroom to check he is marrying the right bride. Even today in traditional Christian and Jewish weddings this tradition is carried on.
