Worship the Lord
1 Kings 3:3: And Solomon loved Jehovah, to walk in the statutes of his father David. Only, he was sacrificing in high places and burning incense.
Solomon as the son of King David had been exposed to the ways of his father and the one thing that stood out was that David loved Jehovah. There is no evidence that Solomon was trained in warfare or that he was a good swordsman or archer; but that he was skilled in leading men as his father had taught him. As parents we learn many truths by reading and studying scripture and one of the greatest is that our children learn from our examples.
Solomon kept the Laws and sacrifices and he went to those places where he could be apart and alone; these were the high places. In this way we learn that when we keep the commandments and worship the Lord; the Lord will honour this. When we love the Lord we walk in ways that honours that love.
